Breeding and Genetics

img_0577_fixAre you looking to harvest a dream buck — a true slammer that will have you grinning ear-to-ear for years to come? Most whitetail fanatics are, and here to help make that dream reality is Whitehouse Whitetails. A top-notch whitetail breeding facility that has mastered the art of using DNA and a stellar feeding program to produce monster bucks, Whitehouse Whitetails regularly produces bucks over the 300-inch mark. Oh, and it may be of interest to know that they have produced a record buck that pushed the tape over the 400-inch mark. Yes, Laura and Pete Carroll offer one of the best locations in the nation to lay the hammer down on that true buck-of-a-lifetime. Just how do they do it? Laura had this to say:

“We have a stellar breeding program, but it all starts with what we feed our deer. My husband is a first-class feeder, and feed has so much to do with DNA. Honestly, it’s liking taking twins and raising them with different families. They will look somewhat alike, but will be different because of how they are fed and how they are raised. Our deer get the very best. In addition, I use a GMS Breeder Package which allows me to keep all of my information on it. It’s from this that I decide when I have a buck, because I know his DNA, and line breed him. This is a form of inbreeding, but it’s actually called line breeding. Breeders should know that you can breed father-to-daughter and father-to-granddaughter, but you shouldn’t go any further back than that. Staying in that line breeding range allows you to continually breed in the things you like. If you go too far with it, you can end up with problems.  I will stack the genetics from the mother and the father’s side. I look at both sides. I then look to see what is needed. I look to see if I need width, to bring tine lengths in or if I need mass. I look at all these things between the male and the female. The female actually carries 65% of the genetics, and after looking at all these things, I can then decide what I need to feed.

“By the time they’re yearlings they are already between 140 and 200 inches, just because of the attention that is placed on the breeding genetics and feed. We really try not to overthink it. We love it and want to make it fun and enjoyable. We can breed typical and non-typical racks so that our hunters can pick and choose, and they really love being able to do that.”

Finding Relaxation in the Most Remote Locations of All

It is a fact that the largest travel locations are also beyond popular. Among the downsides of this fact is that when you’re looking for peace, quiet, and basically a chance to do nothing more than spend time with yourself and, perhaps, one other best friend, the most popular places don’t offer that. In other words, it is the most remote (sometimes most beautiful) spots out there that you want to visit. If so, here are just a few that are there for the taking:

Add Value with Summer Home Renovation Projects

There are a whole list of summer activities for you and the kids planned. Most of them, of course, you want to be nothing but fun, such as grilling outside on the patio or swimming in the pool. However, having the backyard pool and patio are two things you really need in place before either of those activities could be enjoyed. And building this area could be a great summer project in order to not only get the house you really want, but add value to the home for a future sale.

Raunchy Adaptation of Classic TV Series Arrives on Home Video

Whenever a classic television series is made into a movie, the buzz always seems to be about whether the screen version will be a creative variation on the theme or merely a campy, cornball, take-the-money-and-run ripoff trading in familiar formulas and shopworn cliches. After all, for every inspired adaptation like Batman (1989), Charlie\’s Angels (2000) and 21 Jump Street (2012) there are just as many bitter disappointments, al a Dragnet (1987), I Spy (2002) and Get Smart (2008).
