Summertime fun on the range

Summertime fun on the range

by Craig Lamb

Summer is a great season for introducing your family to the fun and sport of target shooting. Longer days make participating convenient for everyone, and many ranges offer night-time hours that add to the enjoyment of evening shooting.

Whether it’s sporting clays or archery, shooting sports offer a challenging and fun activity for everyone. If you are a beginner in one or more of the sports, the next step starts with locating a shooting range.

WhereToShoot.org is a good place to begin your search. The website is maintained by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry. While searching, you might find 5-Star Ranges. Those are recognized by the NSSF as the best at providing high-level recreational experiences.

For newcomers, the NSSF offers First Shots. The program takes away the intimidation factor by teaching safe shooting in a group setting of like-minded students. Everyone learns at a slow pace and skilled shooters teach the courses.

Archery beginners also have educational resources to help them get started in the sport. The Archery Trade Association offers Explore Bowhunting, an educational program designed to help instructors and educators teach students aged 11 to 17 the basic skills.

Women can find a similar program through Shoot Like A Girl. The organization seeks out women shooters at sports shows, clinics and hunting expos. Real women shooters, including a Pro Staff, connecting with newcomers make a win-win for everyone.

Gearing up for shooting sports is easier when one resource can provide for your shooting needs, from archery to sporting clays. TRUGLO is the go-to source for archery, crossbow, firearms and optics accessories.

TG90D_lEspecially appealing to sporting clays shooters is the TRUGLO lineup of high visibility fiber-optic shotgun sights. The sights provide optimum clarity between the shotgun’s front bead and target. What is more, the luminescent features of the sights aid dominant eye issues common to newcomers and improve target acquisition, regardless of skill level. The sights glow in all light conditions, enhancing the shooter’s target acquisition by creating a sharp contrast between the end of the shotgun and the fluorescent clay targets.

Summertime shooting is fun for the entire family and it has an intangible benefit that can pay off once the season ends. Spending time on the range keeps shooting skills sharp for hunting seasons. Practicing during the off-season in the fellowship of family and friends adds to the camaraderie of all shooting sports, from target practice to going afield for hunting in the fall and winter.

TRUGLO is the world’s leading company in fiber-optic technology for the shooting sports industry. Born from innovation, TRUGLO continues year after year to enhance the marketplace with technologically advanced and innovative ideas for the outdoor shooting enthusiast.  Based in Richardson, Texas, TRUGLO is a worldwide recognized brand, celebrating over 20 years of providing only the very best to shooters and hunters around the world. Giving back to an industry it loves, TRUGLO is involved in many conservation groups, youth programs and organizations that promote the values that it believes are necessary to guarantee the industry’s future. Vacations…Underground

There are millions of spots to visit and sites to see around the world when it comes to vacation time; however, there are also those you can’t necessarily “see.” In this world of digital technology and highly imaginative architecture that creates buildings that are higher and more “glitzy” than ever before, it is important to remember that in ancient times, people were building “down.” Various civilizations created locations underground, while others actually got buried by Mother Nature and simply forgotten about. Let’s begin internationally…

Buying & Selling: Learning the Art of the Tag Sale

When people speak about making a few extra bucks, there is more than one way to skin a cat these days. Perhaps you’re trying to save up for a vacation for the family to take this summer. Perhaps you are looking for collectibles to invest in. Oddly enough, many people do not realize what, exactly, was in Great Grandma’s house when she passed on to a happier place. There are even those who will put her things on a table, mark them twenty-five cents, and declare them to be old knickknacks (AKA: things you need to dust every five seconds.) Trouble is, a lot of those knickknacks can actually be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Heck, there have even been things found at tag sales that have been resold in the millions. No. Not kidding. Are the chances immense that you’ll find such a buy? No. But, there have been those that have proven this particular once-in-a-lifetime-event can happen.
