Take Me Out to the Ball Game

The baseball season has once again begun. People are heading to the stands with their sons and daughters; purchasing rubber hot dogs to enjoy while watching the ‘coolest of cool’ slide, hit, strike out, and create home runs out of the blue. The eyes of children grow wider – especially those owned by the kids who dream of one day being a professional baseball player in action. And baseball also brings along a way to rest and relax in the Great Outdoors.
Now is the time to get out of the living room on a Saturday afternoon. Now is the time to brush off that layer of polar vortex ice and snow that has rained down for longer than you want to remember (in fact, you probably feel a lot like the Abominable Snowman’s twin right about now…) And now is the time to go back to that grandstand and attempt to catch a fly ball, as you think back on the historical moments that happened in the stadium you may, right now, be sitting in.
As with everything in this world – from sports, to religion, to politics, etcetera – baseball has had its ‘hits’. A-Rod seems to be the one most talked about at the moment, but teams and their owners want nothing more than to bring everyone back to the ball game. They know that the NFL has outdone them in the past couple of decades, making pro football ‘America’s Game’ instead of what it was always meant to be. So it was not a huge surprise that MLB has ramped up the energy this season by signing on and creating advertising campaigns that will remind everyone out there that baseball is what the real ‘love’ is when it comes to American sports.
BBDO New York is a big-name advertising agency that is responsible for some of the most memorable campaigns ever created for brands and much-beloved companies. And they are taking that emotion this season by using ‘love’ to bring fans back!
Most have seen the beginnings of this campaign. “For the love of baseball” came about on opening day as the men took the field, waving to their fans and spitting their chew on the diamond. And from here on out, that love of baseball will consistently and constantly be seen and heard about by the fans. Commercial after commercial, ad after ad, will resurrect the big names and the ultimate unforgettable moments that baseball brought to the United States since its inception.
Brand new players who are definitely on the path to become future big-name stars will be shown. BBDO will make sure that each and every one of us who never missed a baseball game, but turned away for the gridiron a while back, comes back to the game in order to bring back memories we loved as children, and place new memories into the minds of this generation.
As we all know, BBDO and MLB certainly understands and will utilize fully the social media world. After all, most of our children (as well as parents) are consistently and constantly heading to Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo – you name it – and the
‘love’ of baseball will be appearing on it all! The biggest supporter of sports – Budweiser – will also be part of these huge initiatives to get people back outdoors and into the stands. They are always the brand in the top-ten (usually #1), for sports commercials that express the heart, mind and soul of the American.
Is there a moment during the 2014 season that we will remember for the rest of our lives? Will BBDO create the next Budweiser commercial that talks about our veteran’s coming home, or has their stunning, signature horses kneeling, showing the strength that is owned by the U.S. of A.? It’s certainly possible.
The passion for baseball may have waned a bit, but the memories, the all-stars, Babe Ruth, the criminal activities, the brilliance of hearing who ‘WON THE PENNANT’ screamed across the globe – this is a sport that can claim a rich and exciting history that will always make it the elite.
So get outside and enjoy the best afternoon you’ve had in a very long time!
