The Best & Worst (So Far) of the 2016 NFL Season

The Best & Worst (So Far) of the 2016 NFL Season

by Amy Lignor

Okay…we’re almost dead center, folks, so it’s time to sum up the best and silliest actions and reactions that the 2016 NFL season has provided fans thus far.

Analysts are always yapping, and most likely nothing they say will actually come true. However, right now almost everyone is agreeing to the fact that Tom Brady has a score to settle. Yes, he’s 2016 NFL season, Amy's Angle, Broncos, Green Bay, Eagles, Seahawkssmiling for the cameras and, yes, he’s answering questions and being charming and kind to one and all. BUT, everyone can also see on his face (and in his stats) that there is a “bad” angel on his ‘other’ shoulder who has him wishing that he could accept this year’s Super Bowl trophy and laugh in Commissioner Rodger Goodell’s face. It would also be interesting if he was the first ever to win the MVP award in a year where he didn’t even play for the first 4 games because the Commissioner was basically an idiot.

The Green Bay Packers look as if someone is drunk, mostly their QB, and there’s no coffee to be had. In other words, they are one of the best teams with one of the best QB’s in the business, yet their win/loss columns don’t show that. Aaron Rogers, their QB, looked ill at the beginning of last season too and stated to everyone: R-E-L-A-X. This year, he hasn’t said a word.

The Bears have a QB who all of a sudden can play after all this time. He even pats the shoulders of his teammates and congratulates them on a good play. Up until now, he barely spoke to them and breaking a smile would have been an anomaly. What people should understand is Cutler is trying out for another team. He’s not going to stay with the Chicago Bears. Of course, Chicago sports fans really aren’t caring right now because they’re too busy celebrating their baseball team’s illustrious World Series win. (Go, Cubs, Go!)

The Minnesota Vikings came out of the gate firing, so to speak. They remained the only undefeated team and now have lost back-to-back games and look like a team that has self-destructed. People are mysteriously “leaving/retiring/quitting” in their management/hierarchy, and the team looks like the best days of the 2016 season are already behind them.

The Dallas Cowboys have a rookie QB who is playing like a young Tom Brady. Analysts say to keep the rookie in because the Cowboys luck is going strong. Others say the old pro, Tony Romo, deserves to be brought back in now that he’s healed. But…will Romo’s return be the Cowboys downfall? Yup. That’s exactly what it would be. But Jerry Jones, as we all know, loves to make bad decisions. Don’t believe me? Look at history, people.

The Denver Broncos are the reigning Super Bowl champs and are doing well this year. But without Manning at the helm, the team is getting no press. Is the shine off the rose even though they seem to be the only ones who could beat Brady and stop the Patriots from heading to the Super Bowl? Guess so. Peyton Manning’s commercials are great. Looks like he “got out while the getting was good,” because he’s the only Bronco who people are seeing on a daily basis. Sad, considering he’s the retired one.

The Seattle Seahawks have a great QB in Wilson, although the man happens to be a little banged up right now. Can he create miracles yet again in the second half of the season? Seattle fans certainly hope so because, as always, it looks like Wilson is the only team member who even looks like he remotely likes the team he’s playing for. The Seahawks never smile; and people are getting really bored watching their coach chew gum at the speed of light on the sidelines for four solid quarters. Maybe the players are still mad at the guy for calling the stupid play that lost them the Super Bowl to the Patriots. I certainly would be.

The 49ers. Who are they again? Oh, right…that classic team that had the best QB’s in the business who now only see the headlines when their QB (that the coach really has no desire to put in) kneels or sits down during the National Anthem instead of standing. Well, I guess if you got to be in the paper for something, that’s better than nothing. Although 49ers football fans would disagree.

The Giants should be at the top, yet Odell Beckham, Jr. seems to be too busy nabbing headlines for either crying or beating up a net on the sidelines. Of course, now he has proposed to the net, so all is well in Beckham’s world. I think the blond hair dye has leaked into the guy’s brain.

The Philadelphia Eagles are surprising many, yet they still can’t seem to garner more headlines than the Cowboys. Perhaps if they beat them, this story would improve.

Last but not least, Cam Newton, QB of the Panthers, was renowned for his dancing ability on the sidelines last season. Before he went to the Super Bowl and lost to the Broncos, Cam was thrilled to be in the limelight for having an almost perfect season. So far, this year, all he wants to do is whine about being hit. Because of his “poor me” statements as of late, he may just get hit even harder out on that field. In addition, his wardrobe has become just as silly as his statements. He should enjoy the wardrobe though, because the way he’s playing, it looks like the only “feather in his cap” for a good, long time to come will actually be that stupid feather sticking out of his cap.

Where to Vacation? Go Big or Stay Home!

We speak about luxury vacations, budget vacations, vacations that are fun for the kids, and many more areas of travel at this time of year. But there is also a category that many do not touch upon because they “assume” it is far too difficult for those on a budget to be able to enjoy these jaw-dropping wonders. However, whether you are a backpacker looking to “become a journeyman” and all you need is the price of the plane ticket; or one that is saving up for that “ultimate trip,” these are locations where either can go to create memories that will be among the greatest and grandest of their entire lives.

How Are Retail Sales in 2017?

Despite consumer uncertainty, as well as a very sluggish beginning to 2017, the U.S. retail sales industry is projected to increase 4% this year. Headlines show that many retailers and companies posted “soft” holiday sales to end 2016, which caused some notable retailers to either cut jobs or close stores as a result. However, when it comes to 2017, the National Retail Federation (NFR) released an economic forecast projecting the retail industry (this excludes automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants) to grow and reach that 4% increase aim.
