The Camping Challenge

Ah…the peace and excitement of leaving civilization. Whether packing up with friends, family, or heading out solo, it’s time for a little relaxation with some thrills and chills to boot. Some call camping a sport, others refer to it as the simple life. Peace, quiet, great hunting locations, streams and lakes thriving with fish, and scenery that’s truly extraordinary are just some of the benefits that come with a camping trip.

Camping, however, takes time to plan. And the gear for this particular sport should also be packed with care. Just like a CampinginCaliforniahunter making sure the firearm is ready, the ammo is right and the tree stand is in the truck before leaving home – the camper should also think ahead when wanting to have that perfect getaway.

Spending the night under the stars may seem like a silly thing to say, but there are many true-as-grit outdoorsmen (and women) who see camping as a way to feel better, and get away from the hectic world so they can remember what’s good in life.

Camping comes in many forms, though. A tent is certainly still used by the hardcore camper, but caravans, motor homes, cabins and other shelters are now used to make camping less of a challenge and more like a home away from home. National and state parks are still the chosen places for camping, but there are other publicly owned natural areas and privately owned property out there just waiting to be discovered.

Survivalist campers are the group that love the challenges the Great Outdoors provides. Survivalists work hard to learn the skills needed to survive in any situation – living like true pioneers.

Hunters take to the camping areas in order to enjoy all activities, from spotting the right location to bag the whitetail, or canoeing, whitewater kayaking and fishing spots that will take them deeper into the area.

Mobile campers is a term given to the backpackers out there who choose lightweight equipment and accessories as they head to remote locations. Much like survivalists, backpacking has grown in popularity, with more and more people wanting a real challenge. They must be prepared for weather that can change on a dime, as well as keep an eye out for that overly-interested Grizzly.

The backpacker looks for gear that is lightweight, considering they have to carry it uphill and down: Titanium cookware, synthetic clothing, light fabrics in case the weather is blistering, and down sleeping bags in case the air turns chilly. Some choose to camp in rugged, out of the way places using a pack animal for help. After all, the dog can be a huge helper when it comes to carrying the camping supplies.

Water enthusiasts and daredevils love to canoe camp, which is along the same lines as backpacking when it comes to challenges. Everything from waterproof bags that seal all the important equipment and keep it dry during the journey; to the standard fishing gear are essentials for the canoe camper.

Bicycling, hiking, bird watching – these are usually the choices of campers who make their home at an already prepared campsite. But it’s always good to remember that there are a ton of manufacturers out there making accessories to allow the camper to stay in a tent or under the stars; products that will offer as much comfort as the caravan.

When it comes to camping, selecting the right equipment can mean the difference between life and death. The tent, the products used for storing food, insect repellents – all of these items can literally save the camper from a predator attack.

The correct shelter needs to be purchased, as well as a survival kit that includes the items needed in an emergency. Waterproof matches, fish hooks, gloves, antiseptic, and most importantly a supply of water. After all, hydration is key to making sure the camping experience doesn’t turn into an ER visit.

Wind-proof and waterproof clothing; sleeping bags; flashlights; trash bags; insect repellents; sunscreen – the list goes on.

With all that done…head into the Great Outdoors and have a ball!

How Are Retail Sales in 2017?

Despite consumer uncertainty, as well as a very sluggish beginning to 2017, the U.S. retail sales industry is projected to increase 4% this year. Headlines show that many retailers and companies posted “soft” holiday sales to end 2016, which caused some notable retailers to either cut jobs or close stores as a result. However, when it comes to 2017, the National Retail Federation (NFR) released an economic forecast projecting the retail industry (this excludes automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants) to grow and reach that 4% increase aim.
