Use Common Sense in the Great Outdoors

Although a shotgun, bow, or other weapon of choice helps the hunter, a dose of common sense is still required when it comes to meeting up with the ultimate predator.

For most, there is a definite rule of thumb; experts are experts for a reason. Whether it be hunter or angler, or one who swims with sharks on a daily basis – most meet face-to-face with predators safely, by using a keen eye and a skilled mind. Most…

There are headlines out there that have been more than a little interesting to say the least, beginning with a man who actually decided to kiss a shark on the lips a few years back. The TV special, Shark Week, has been around for many years to help

Predator Camo Archery-hunting-www.predatorcamo.com- people better understand the species that earned the ‘most feared sea creature’ title for a reason. A close encounter with a creature can happen without warning; yet when a person throws themselves into the line of ‘Jaws’ it becomes more than odd.

A Florida diver actually established his own greeting when it came to sharks. Flipping them over, he would rub their stomachs as if they were Fido to show kindness and friendliness. However, when attempting to kiss a nurse shark, the beast basically proved why it’s a shark. Attacking, the diver did, thankfully, only come away with a severe laceration to his lips, escaping what could have been a serious bloodbath.

This incident was not the only incident that’s occurred when a human perhaps forgets that a species is wild. Some believe it may be a ‘Chuck Norris’ attempt by animal experts to see if they can survive what most can not. But the wild part of the phrase ‘wild animal’ needs to be remembered at all times – from fishing in the deep to sitting in a tree stand in the woods.

It’s a fact that all creatures respond to extreme behavior with extreme behavior, and the shyest, cutest animals can sometimes be the biggest weapon in Mother Nature’s arsenal.

Most don’t mess with the ones already in the history books as being the worst of the worst (like those sharks). But there are also other creatures that move far more slowly, scoping out anything in their habitat that seems just a little off. These creatures are not only as strong and stealthy as the shark, but they are also hunted and seen on a daily basis.

When it comes to the protective mother syndrome, that’s yet anther piece of the puzzle hunters need to be well aware of. Like humans, a female creature will do anything to protect its young. Take Moose for example. Their grin actually can remind someone of the famous Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon, but the fact remains that Moose are among the most dangerous species in the world. Usually ignoring humans completely, they will charge if necessary to protect themselves or their calf. They are hugely aggressive and can prove that in seconds. What many may not know is that Moose are responsible for far more attacks on humans during the year than the more frightening bears.

Like the shark, people know that the wild cat species is aggressive. But they forget that their young is also easily angered. Moose-Road Trekin AdventuresEven though they may not have the bite of Mom or Dad around, the young versions of tigers, lions, jaguars, cougars and the puma, that’s a huge stalker in North America, will bring a human being down. At last count 15,000 of these small, cute cats are being kept captive in the U.S., but only a very small percentage stay in habitats at your local zoo.

Bears can never be left out. One of the largest carnivores in the world, growing up children actually see the bear as a cute little creature that could never possibly bring harm to anyone. Grizzlies and polar bears may be the most feared of the species, but all species of bear are dangerous no matter what your preconceived notion may be.

The elephant is a creature that many absolutely love – even the hunter. They are the beloved giant at the zoo and at the circus and certainly look more than peaceful. If encountered in the wild, however, the elephant can turn into one of the most dangerous creatures on the planet. Studies have been done showing that elephants actually experience moments of pure rage that come out of nowhere, bringing out a vindictive, menacing side. India shows this to be true, with hundreds of people killed by mistreated or rampaging elephants that are simply angry for no apparent reason.

From cats to bears to creatures of the deep, common sense must always be used when hunting, tracking, swimming and even hiking. Not for the faint of heart, the Great Outdoors should be respected at all times.

How Are Retail Sales in 2017?

Despite consumer uncertainty, as well as a very sluggish beginning to 2017, the U.S. retail sales industry is projected to increase 4% this year. Headlines show that many retailers and companies posted “soft” holiday sales to end 2016, which caused some notable retailers to either cut jobs or close stores as a result. However, when it comes to 2017, the National Retail Federation (NFR) released an economic forecast projecting the retail industry (this excludes automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants) to grow and reach that 4% increase aim.
